One of the first questions couples ask us is when to get married in Bosnia & Herzegovina. The honest answer: every season has its own beauty, but each one also asks for a bit of planning. Here is what to expect throughout the year.

Late spring: May and June

Everything is green, the days are long and the temperatures are pleasant. It is one of the most popular times for weddings, so the best venues and photographers book up early. Expect the occasional spring shower and have a plan B for outdoor ceremonies.

Summer: July and August

Summer is wedding season, with warm evenings that are perfect for long outdoor dinners. It can get very hot, especially in Herzegovina, so we recommend planning portraits for the late afternoon and evening, and keeping the middle of the day for indoor moments. Shade, water and a relaxed schedule make a big difference for everyone.

Early autumn: September and October

Our personal favourite. The heat softens, the light becomes warm and golden, and the forests start to change colour. September in particular gives you summer evenings without the summer heat. It is ideal for couples who want relaxed outdoor portraits.

Winter: November to March

Winter weddings are quieter and more intimate. Venues are easier to book, and if you are lucky with snow, Sarajevo and the surrounding mountains look magical. Days are short, so the portrait time needs to be planned carefully around the daylight.

Our advice

  • Think about the light, not just the date. The time of sunset changes your whole schedule.
  • Book early for May to September. Popular dates are often reserved a year or more in advance.
  • Consider a weekday. Smaller crowds at locations and more flexible venues.
